Alison Tharp is a longtime fixture in the Bay Area art world, known for her uncanny zine, Adventures in Food, her irrepressible television personality on CompoundArtTV.com’s Tharp World, and her often hysterical paintings and drawings. She has positioned herself as a cultural anthropologist whose area of focus is normative American culture.
In Rodeo Girl, she focuses her scope on the world of competitive horsemanship, creating a cast of human and equine characters, each in some combination of fascinating and grotesque elements. The process used in these pieces—monoprints with chine colle, adds an element of texture and depth to her characteristic drawing style. An impressive showing by an accomplished and varied artist, Alison Tharp’s Rodeo Girl is not to be missed!
Please join us for the opening reception Sunday, September 20 from 3-6 PM.
