Maple Street Denim is thrilled to present "November Rain," Elwyn Palmerton's first solo show since moving to Oakland in 2014.
His work reflects an almost compulsive need to pull the flotsam and jetsam from his head and lay it on every inch of the page in front of him. This temporary relief allows him to go forward with what vaguely resembles a normal human life. Palmerton refined his drawing style in New York before the heeding the call of the west coast, with success measured in such tangibles as a New York Times review and a Pollack Krasner grant. The work in the Maple Street Denim gallery demonstrates his consistent vocabulary of mark making, while the evolving color use is consistent with a new experience of California light, weather and landscape. Come out and follow Palmerton's obsessive, unconscious ebb and flow of the human experience around the paper in six pencil and watercolor works completed in late 2014.
Please join us for the opening reception during First Friday Oakland Art Murmur, March 6 5:00-8:00 pm to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments.
