Are you an outgoing, friendly person who loves denim? Do you want to help a small team grow in a vibrant community of like-minded small businesses in Downtown Oakland? Are your hours flexible?
Then we may have just the opportunity for you!
We are looking to add a part time store associate to our team for weekend shifts with flexibility to work some weekdays. We are currently open from 12-7 Monday - Thursday, 12-6 Friday and Saturday, and 12-5 Sunday. We will be hiring for the Sunday shift to begin with, but the best applicant will be available to cover 1-3 more shifts per week from time to time. This is a great opportunity for a student or someone with a night job looking to fill in some more hours. For the long term, this position will grow as our business grows.
Our shop is a heavily customer-service based environment that can range from extremely busy and fast-paced to quiet with down-time to be filled with tasks such as dusting, straightening and restocking. We are looking for someone who can adjust easily to those changes, can contribute new ideas to our growing business, and, most importantly, loves helping customers.
-Assisting customers one-on-one in finding the right pair of jeans - this includes learning about all of the different brands, styles, fits and washes and building and maintaining relationships with repeat customers.
-Operating the Point of Sale system, including counting the drawer at the beginning and end of the day, ringing up sales, handling cash, gift certificates, and store credits
-Maintaining a welcoming and friendly environment for every customer who comes into our store: greeting them, engaging in conversation, being available to answer questions about our inventory, treating everyone with kindness and respect. We are a business dedicated to being inclusive and welcoming to people of all different shapes, sizes, genders, colors and backgrounds and our staff must reflect those values.
-Restocking, folding, straightening and merchandising inventory - including changing mannequins and store displays
-Cleaning and keeping the shop maintained - dusting, cleaning windows, vacuuming, taking out trash and recycling
-Answering phone calls, text messages, and occasionally social media inquiries
-Friendly, outgoing, and bright with an ability to learn quickly.
-Strong customer service skills and works well with a small, close-knit team of employees
-Able to both take direction and be a self-starter with initiative to see things that need to be done`
-Computer/ipad savvy with an ability to understand digital tasks easily. Social media skills strongly encouraged!
-Understanding that we are a new and growing business that is building our brand identity. The ideal candidate already has some familiarity with what we do and who we are and genuinely wants to be part of the MSDOAK team
-Has an interest in denim and fashion, but is not in any way a self-described “denim snob.”
-Able to lift up to 50 pounds
-Can work weekends and holidays and has flexibility to cover shifts
Pay is an hourly wage based on experience and availability. There is a 90-day probationary period to see if it is a good long term fit.
